Research Resources

Research can be a challenging and time-consuming task. Knowing where to look and what sources to use is something many students struggle with. On this page you can find some useful resources for finding good quality information on your topic. Ideally you should use as many sources from here as possible. While websites like History.com, Britannica and Wikipedia are very convenient they usually do not have very detailed information. To score highly on the research essays you need to do research in a book or two.

Online Databases (mostly secondary sources)

Gale(an online database of scholarly journals, books, magazines, and newspapers – ask Mr. Mitchler if you forgot the login information)

Google Scholar (a free online database of scholarly sources – you may find some sources for free while others may be limited – always worth a look)

PDFDrive (an online database that includes digital versions of many books – if you find a book on Google Scholar that is not viewable you can search for a PDF version here)

Primary Sources

Fordham University: Internet History Sourcebooks Project (good collection of primary sources curated by Fordham University’s history department – many of the primary sources used in I&S class come from this website)

AlphaHistory (you will need to select your topic in the menu and then click documents from the menu on the left)

Wikiquote (good source for primary source quotations – if you know a historical figure related to your research, look them up here!)

Note: Primary sources can often be found inside secondary sources. You will need to look for these.
