Inquiry Question: What caused World War One?

The question above sets the stage for an understanding of WWI, an extreme form of great power competition that erupted in a devastating global conflict. What tensions existed between European states in the decades leading to the First World War? What are the warning signs of global war? These are some of the significant questions we want to examine over the course of this unit. Many of the assumptions about national power remain unresolved with us today.
